Prevernal, vernal, estival, serotinal, autumnal, and hibernal are the six seasons.
These seasons are based on the timing of key ecological events, such as when animals hibernate or flowers bloom.
Each season consists of two months of 30 days, 10 cycles of [[The Moons]].
Here are the six seasons and some of the events that occur during each:
- **Prevernal**
(Jan and Feb)
Also known as pre-spring, this season begins when the weather warms and snow melts, tree buds swell, flowers form bulbs, and some birds migrate from their winter to summer habitats.
- **Vernal**
(Mar and Apr)
Also known as spring. Tree buds burst into leaves, flowers bloom, and birds establish territories and start mating and nesting.
- **Estival**
(May and Jun)
This season is also known as summer. Trees are in full leaf, birds hatch and raise their offspring, and it's the peak season for many plants and animals.
- **Serotinal**
(Jul and Aug)
Gardeners and farmers start harvesting their crops, baby birds mature, and some migratory birds head south.
- **Autumnal**
(Sep and Oct)
Deciduous trees change color, most leaves have dropped, and the first snows fall.
- **Hibernal**
(Nov and Dec)
This season is also known as winter, and is when hibernating mammals hibernate and people get cabin fever.
